Coconut water is the mother of all fad foods and drinks. There wasn’t, at any point in history, a product so hyped and oversold as this beverage. Even today, when we know that coconut water is fine but it’s not the miracle drink of gods it was once advertised as, the sales of this beverage are still sky-high, especially among trendier communities and health freaks like Angelenos and Californians in general.
Coconut water is the clear liquid found inside of green coconuts. As such, it should not be confused with coconut milk.
This liquid is believed to be highly hydrating, so it was advertised as a perfect drink after workout, yoga, sports and even after long nights of partying hard. This reputation is owed to the presumably high level of electrolytes in coconut water. However, some manufacturers claims that it contains 15 times more electrolytes than sports drinks turned out to be false.
